James "Jim" Donald Root (born November 2, 1971) aged 39, also known by his number # 4, is an American musician known as the main guitarist for Slipknot, and guitarist the lead singer of Stone Sour. It was the last member to join the current lineup of Slipknot, in January 1999.
James Root has played in bands such as Anal Blast, Atomic Opera, dead front and Stone Sour, the latter of which was incorporated in 1995, and returned along with vocalist Corey Taylor, during its revival in 2002. Before joining Slipknot, he worked as screen printers, waiter and busboy. Root joined the band in January 1999, replacing original guitarist, Josh Brainard, who left the band during the recording of their eponymous album, apparently after having fulfilled their recording functions. In fact, the only two songs recorded during sessions following the album were "Purity" and "Me Inside", the first is presented in the first pressing of Slipknot ephemeral and the 10 th Anniversary edition and the second being replacement. Despite this, the song has become a staple for most live performances of the band. Slipknot vocalist Corey Taylor invited the following to join the band on the basis of Taylor's past experience working with him in Stone Sour.
In addition to his talent on guitar for Stone Sour, the root has also performed drums in a song the band has recorded, the Come What (ever) May bonus track "The Day I Let Go". Outside Slipknot and Stone Sour, Root has appeared on DJ Sid Wilson of Slipknot turntablist album Starscream The New Leader, and John age 5 the devil knows my name, for the song "Black Widow of La Porte" and also appeared in the Roadrunner United project, performing solos and harmony in "N Tired" Lonely "from the album of the project The All-Star Sessions. He also appeared on Jonathan Davis and SFA cover of" Got Money "by Lil Wayne.
